Citing excessive cost, Mills stops recount push

A positive blessing

A positive blessing

In a time when political nastiness and negativity seems to dominate public life, I would like to recognize a local organization that is a positive blessing for our community.

Kinship Partners matches children in need with caring adults who are ready to give back to their community.  I decided I was ready to be a Kinship Mentor about five years ago. I realized that mentoring was supposed to be good for children. What I didn’t realize was how beneficial mentoring would be for me and my family.

In addition to the one to one mentoring opportunities that Kinship is known for, they also sponsor a group mentoring program called the Lakes Area Guys Network (LAGN). LAGN male volunteers get together with middle school boys two to three times a month to do group activities. LAGN has the advantage of asking men for smaller time commitments, and every activity is fun. By sponsoring a group activity, or showing up at activities even occasionally, men can still have a positive impact on the lives of youth.

Kinship and LAGN always need help. Please consider being part of positive community health by contacting Kinship to see where you fit in.
