Global warming supported

A recent local writer told us that global warming is real and that science is in agreement about the human causes of it and about the seriousness of the problem. All true. No real question. Look it up in unbiased publications. He was immediately attacked by a paid climate denier from Canada — they read the Dispatch in Ottawa? — who goes to great lengths to make it seem that there is no agreement at all on this question. He ridiculously suggests that warming will be a good thing. All smoke and lies. This guy is paid by the Canadian fossil fuels industry and could come up with a credible defense of child abuse if the money was right. The intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports are quite clear and scientists in the field are in near unanimous agreement. This in itself is quite amazing given that governments and powerful corporate interests have put a great deal of pressure on scientists to weaken their findings. The Earth is warming and it is directly related to human activities, especially our consumption of fossil fuels. We don’t understand the science and we don’t want to accept responsibility for the damage we are doing to our planet but if we are honest with ourselves and with future generations we must do both. We really are at a tipping point not only in regard to human-caused climate change but also in our increasingly tenuous relationship to the truth.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
