Muslims are not all terrorists

Muslims are not all terrorists

Here are the facts from about a recent letter to the editor.

Two Muslims were hired to the Department of Homeland Security, in 2009. One

was a senior Justice Department aide during the Bush administration, with a

long record of law enforcement work. Another is a former head of the

American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and was appointed as a

civil-rights adviser. Neither is from Saudi Arabia, the homeland of Osama

bin Ladin, who engineered the 2001 twin towers incident.

Just like all Norwegian people didn’t go gunning for adolescents, nor did

all Desert Storm veterans bomb the Oklahoma City Federal building, not all

Muslims or people with Middle Eastern descent are terrorists. Do you really

want to live in a world with armed enclaves of “us” versus “them?”

Who is more secure — the neighbor who knows his/her neighbors and shares with

them, or the one who has a guard dog at his door? I say, the more diversity

we have in Homeland Security (and elsewhere), the more secure we are.
