Gazelka's legacy

If you would like to see the legacy left to Brainerd by Sen. Gazelka, take a ride east on Oak Street and view the destruction of the Brainerd State Hospital. It’s a sad commentary that the state would spend millions on this demolition project, claiming the buildings are old and outdated.

Now take a ride past the Brainerd City Hall built in 1927 and still being put to good use, same as our county courthouse, and the 1927 old jail, now a museum. How about the whole downtown, constructed in the 1920s and 1930s? But leave it to the state to waste time, money and property However you can be sure these same legislators will find a way to spend millions on a new stadium for the billionaires and millionaires. But the local senator will not lift a finger to help support a veterans’ home at the state hospital site.

Every time I drive by that beautiful hospital complex it makes me sick, as it does so many local citizens.
