Lakes Area Musical Festival is a treasure

Congratulations to Scott Lykins, artistic director, and Sue Johnson, executive director, on the wonderful community concert kickoff to the Lakes Area Musical Festival.

As I looked over the good crowd at Tornstrom on Sunday afternoon, I wondered how many in the Lakes Area still do not realize what a wonderful gift this community is receiving. I trust it will continue to grow to the point that it will become an annual summer destination for many.

These are not amateurs fooling around on a Sunday afternoon, but accomplished professionals from all over the United States coming together to practice their art. During the three week venue, dozens of musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra alone will be here.

Thanks to the growing number of volunteers that make such an undertaking possible and many thanks to the many local businesses who are supporting this in many ways, the sponsors and people who are housing the visitors--the list is endless.

A few years ago we packed the auditorium for the Minnesota Orchestra. We ought to be doing that for every one of these upcoming concerts.
