Nolan is obvious choice

Rick Nolan is the obvious candidate for the 8th District DFL U.S. House of Representatives. He is a Brainerd native and a Crosby resident; owned a business in the area; has experience in the U.S. Congress; served as President of U.S. Export Corporation and Minnesota World Trade Center, as well as President of Central Lakes College Foundation and a Crow Wing County Township Planning Committee Chair.

He is the endorsed DFL candidate, and is also endorsed by Walter Mondale, Gov. Dayton, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Teamsters, Electrical, Plumbers, and Machinists unions, to mention just a few, and ordinary people like me who know him and know that his experience and dynamic personality will only work for the advantage for the residents of the Eighth District.

Please join me in supporting Rick Nolan in the Primary on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Differs with Olson

Is anyone else saddened, disappointed or even angered by the Dispatch’s willingness to print city council member Bob Olson’s financial “findings” twice in the same edition of the Aug. 8 newspaper?

Why not wait until city staff has the opportunity to respond to Mr. Olson? Or are we believing the “guilty until proven innocent” theory? I strongly challenge Mr. Olson’s use of the word “inaccurate” throughout his report to council and in the news reports. Let’s let the “rest of the story” be told.

I strongly challenge Mr. Olson’s insinuation that staff was not timely in presenting the information he requested throughout the last 10 months. He has received most, if not all of the information requested. I also challenge the Dispatch’s logic on allowing someone to tarnish careers of trained city staff because Mr. Olson’s numbers disagree with the numbers presented to us by staff. I also challenge the Dispatch’s logic in allowing a declared candidate for an At-Large city council seat to receive this much press — will the other declared candidates be allowed equal space to express their platforms? I doubt it. It simply appears that the Dispatch enjoys controversy and has found a way to create it while selling additional papers.

Backs Rick Nolan

I have been proud to support Rick Nolan for Congress because he understands the Eighth District and he knows how to get results for our state in Washington. No less important, I know Rick can win in November.

On Tuesday, Aug. 14, Rick Nolan will face two strong opponents in the DFL primary, but Rick’s diverse background is unmatched in the field.

Rick has deep roots in the community and raised his family here. He’s an enthusiastic sportsman who will ensure that future generations can enjoy the outdoors.

Rick has been a successful small business owner, and he understands how each and every job matters to our local economy. He is champion of workers’ rights and has the support of labor. Rick knows that the agriculture, mining, timber, and tourism industries are crucial to jobs in Minnesota’s lakes region.

Nolan has the experience to cut through the partisan bickering in Washington and will get to work for us from day one. His previous service in
