This is paradise

I walked out to my mailbox about 8:30 this morning to get the Dispatch I read with my second cup of coffee each morning. As I turned to walk back I stopped and looked at my place, so quiet, serene and beautiful. The leaves are starting to fall from the birch trees that I planted 35 years ago along with the black walnut, flowering crab and pine trees. They are all strong and healthy just like the two boys and two girls that grew up on the 51 acres I bought on Lower Mission Lake in the fall of 1945.

It is hard to realize all the violence taking place here in our own beautiful country and around the world when I look at this peaceful setting. I am 90 years old, spent 2 1/2 years in Europe fighting for peace and freedom. Freedom came but peace we all know what has happened.

I am still in pretty good shape, so I will spend my final years with my wife and my children who all live within 10 miles of my own little paradise and watch this old tear itself apart.

God bless America and my own little paradise in the Mission area.
