Disturbed people

If guns are responsible for the tragic deaths that fill the newspapers, let’s look at the other items that should accept responsibility for the murder of our people. Airplanes flew into the World Trade Center, Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field which killed almost 3,000 people. Automobiles are used to intentionally kill people. Knives are the weapon of choice for many people who kill others. A classmate of mine was killed when he was stabbed with a screwdriver during a fight.

It is my suggestion that we ban airplanes, automobiles and knives. Let’s add ropes and scarves as they are used to strangle people. Probably baseball bats and 2 by 4s, pieces of lumber as I have heard they kill people also. Let’s not ban screwdrivers as I probably have 50 or more in my shop.

To repeat an often heard quote: “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” The decision to kill someone comes from the murderer. If guns are not available there will be another way to accomplish the deed. Could that possibly be true? Did I mention that arson is used as a means to commit murder? Let’s ban matches and kerosene.

Chicago has reported 400 murders in the first nine months of 2012. This is the only state in the country which has a complete ban on handguns. Tell me how well is that ban working? They may not all be by guns, but something is responsible for the deaths. Surely not the person holding the weapon, but the weapon they are holding.

Makes sense to me.
