A tribute to Babe

A tribute to Babe

On Jan. 14, many in our community will be attending a memorial service celebrating the life of Babe Anderson, who recently passed away in his Arizona home.

It is certain he will be fondly remembered by many; count me among them. I shall remember Babe as a hard working community leader; as wise counsel, as a visionary of uncommon skill; as an unconditional believer in and supporter of our ‘Warrior Way;’ and as good and trusted mentor.

Babe served on the District 181 Board as member and chair when the high school’s lower site was developed. He, along with other visionaries, Elliot Whoolery, Jim McNutt, Wayne Larson, et al, had the foresight to develop the complex that, today, is one of our communities treasures. It is a facility that has served our students and public in a myriad of ways. It is a facility that has been enjoyed by our students, athletes, parents, and community, a facility that has been a showcase to fans and visitors alike.

The fields of green that Babe envisioned are just one of the many gifts he gave us all.

I know that, from his distance, he was proud of that accomplishment...his memory will ever be enshrined on them, and the echoes of his leadership will resonate forever.

And so goodbye, dear and precious friend, from all of us in Warrior blue, thank you. God speed.
