With Saturday’s upcoming Governor’s Fishing Opener headquartered at Cragun’s Resort on Gull, the Brainerd Jaycees are once again trying to lure people to town. They are already synonymous with fishing for their Ice Fishing Extravaganza each January.

Janell Kramer provided the Warrior girls’ softball team with the kind of pitching they’ve been looking for all season. She threw a four-hitter as Brainerd won its first game of the season 7-3 over Little Falls.

Although last night’s 21 degree temperatures may have destroyed some of the tent caterpillars that are hatching in Brainerd area forests, the state entomologist said spraying plans should be carried out. He will give the signal when spraying should begin.
80 years ago (1933)
A sudden gust of wind which whipped his plane out of control caused him to crash and put 18-year-old Hackensack pilot Wardie King into St. Joseph’s Hospital. He had just taken off at the Backus airport and was only 75 feet in the air when it happened.

The Brainerd Speedwells journeyed to Ft. Ripley and were victorious 8 to 5 in a hard fought game of baseball. The southpaw LaForce pitching for Ft. Ripley made 14 Brainerd boys fan the air. Butka, for Brainerd, struck out 7 and was backed by good support.
