President Obama “grappling with the Trayvon Martin case” says Martin “could have been me 35 years ago.”
I wish he would expand on that. Does he mean he would have been expelled from school like Martin because of drug residue in his backpack which was the reason Martin was at his dad’s fiancé?
Or does he mean he would take offense that a neighborhood watch volunteer in a gated community that is riddled with crime would ask what he was doing? The neighborhood this occurred in has more crime than 96 percent of other neighborhoods in the U.S. (http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/fl/sanford/crime/). Most people in a gated community with lots of crime would appreciate having someone watch out for others in that neighborhood.
Did Obama mean he’d be so offended that he’d start a fight with the person questioning him?
I guess I just need our president to fill in the blanks of what he’s
trying to infer. I also hope that people don’t become so afraid of
others that they quit questioning people’s motives.
It sure would have been great on September 11 a decade-and-a-half-ago if people would have questioned certain suspicious individuals.
Of course, it might mean that we were racists again.
