Fact vs. fiction

A recent article by Bob Olson on Nov. 13 is not quite accurate. Minnesota Statute 475.521 Subd.2 Paragraph (c) clearly explains this. The city clearly has the option not to allow it on the ballot. It then explains the procedure from there. Easy enough to verify voters. Just enter the information in your search engine and read it for yourself. Actually, the whole statute is a good read. So, storming the Bastille may not be the best idea. I have no clue what the city will do. I am merely pointing out they have an option which Mr. Olson neglected to mention.

Also, Mr. Olson clearly uses the accusatory nature that our current city council are a bunch of spend now and pay later folks. Absolutely not true at all. It is a matter of public record that Kelly Bevans recently voted no on an issue because we are upside down in the red. Mary Koep has also voted no on several issues because the money is not there.

Is Brainerd in a fiscal mess? Absolutely. What you voters need to realize is that the present city council did not create the mess. The mess was created by Mr. Olson himself and other former council members. Guess Mr. Olson does not want to talk about his direct culpability.

I, as a Joe Sixpack concerned citizen, am very grateful to our current sitting council, department heads, city staff and employees. We are very fortunate to have them.

Beware of snake oil salesmen, folks. Be very aware.
