Use common sense

Use common sense

We, as a community, are blessed to have a viable main street with independent businesses that are the driving force of our state’s economy. As a local grocer, I am proud to support our community, offer good paying jobs, create valuable first-time job experiences for our youth, and provide food for the kitchen table.

Lawmakers in St. Paul are proposing a significant minimum wage increase over a two-year period, and unfortunately, this increase will have several unintended consequences on our local economy. These consequences include an impact on job growth, fewer opportunities for our youth, and higher food prices.

I encourage our state elected officials to use a common sense approach when considering a minimum wage increase this legislative session. In this ever changing marketplace, we must work together to keep main street Minnesota alive.
