Planning for energy efficiency
The state Legislature needs to make equitable access to Minnesota’s transportation system a priority in 2014. Minnesota’s population and job growth is outpacing the state’s current infrastructure, making it more difficult to move people, goods, and services to their next destination. Minnesota is expected to add more than 350,000 new jobs by 2020 and the population of the state is expected to grow by nearly 1 million people by 2030. The Twin Cities metro area is expected to grow by more than 900,000 residents by 2040. Now is the time to plan for future expected growth in order to ensure efficient use of energy and minimize green house gas emissions. We will need to improve highways and roads, replace deficient bridges, build regional clean transit systems, and expand access to bicycling and walking trails.
