Thank you, secret Santa

To the secret Santa who purchased my groceries on Dec. 22 at Cub Foods, you are the true spirit of the holiday season and I am extremely grateful for your kind generosity. Among the items that you purchased was a gift card in a fairly large amount. Feeling that it wasn’t your job to buy that item, I passed on the monetary value to the Salvation Army kettle at the store. So, you not only blessed my family but another as well. Happy New Year, kind friend.

Brainerd should rethink things

I recently contacted Brainerd Public Utilities and asked to have a street light turned on in our alley for security reasons. The public utilities said they wouldn’t turn them on but if I wanted to pay a monthly extra fee on my electric bill they’d turn it on. Then I read in the Dispatch the city is considering buying foreclosed properties in Brainerd to fix up and possibly sell or rent out. What are we paying taxes for? We don’t get any services we need like lights, snow plowing. Brainerd should rethink their policies; we pay taxes and their salaries.
