Fish house fun

Have you ever slept overnight in a fish house? My daughter, Alex, and 3 of her friends did last weekend and I’m sure it was something they will remember for a long time.

The night started late. They missed “prime time” fishing, and by the time they got situated, it was after 9 p.m.

The girls got the nice house (Terry’s) and had all the amenities of home, with the exception of running water. I had the generator hooked up, they had their two movies and enough food/snacks to last for days.

Rattle reels were the way to go with these girls. I couldn’t see them staring at the Vexilar and jigging all night. It would be more about texting, tweeting, talking, watching movies, eating and drinking.

When it was time to drop the lines, I gave them the rundown. But who was going to re-bait the hooks if they got one? These ninth-graders are pretty smart and I figured between the four of them they would be just fine.

It was bed time for me, so I headed home and said a little prayer. I woke up in the middle of the night (2:30 a.m.) to check my phone. There was a text from the girls that came in at 2:15 a.m. of Bailey holding her first walleye! I was happy for them and went back to bed. At 7:15 I got another text of a 15-inch walleye and then another. The girls had a pretty good morning “bite” and packed their bags around 1 p.m. after an experience I’m sure they will not forget.
