Lake associations sue over zebra mussels
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Three lake associations in Carver County have filed a lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources commissioner over the spread of zebra mussels.
The lawsuit alleges that DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr has failed to establish a program to prevent the introduction of zebra mussels into Carver County lakes. The complaint was filed by the lake associations of Lake Bavaria, Christmas Lake and Lotus Lake.
KBRF reports (http://bit.ly/xcSxgL ) the lawsuit alleges the commissioner has allowed uninspected watercraft to launch at the three lakes, potentially causing pollution. The suit cites the DNR's own data that the number of lakes infested with zebra mussels continues to grow in the state.
The DNR had no immediate comment on the lawsuit.
