Spring sprung while it was still winter. Now what to do?

The lakes and rivers are opening up and the turkeys and the other creatures that move along the ground and in the waters are wondering the same thing we are — what’s next?

Typically, I am getting rambunctious about now with the excitement of the fast-approaching wild turkey season. But since this weather has kicked into the warm mode so soon, fishing needs to take equal or greater priority because we might be guiding sooner than normal. In fact, the Rainy River is open and we are rigged, ready and willing to make the jaunt northward, if needed.

The crappie season is going to be an extended one, too, and this will offer our customers another opportunity for some early spring fishing.

But back to my favorite bird. As I see the green showing up in the yard, I am reminded of the gobbles that shake the ground and reverberate through the woods during this beautiful season that has arrived earlier than ever. Get out there and enjoy what we have been given.

The ticks are out, so wear Elimitick clothing or spray yourself with Permethrin before heading into the woods.

Also, there still might be a ticket or two available for the National Wild Turkey Federation banquet Saturday night (tonight) in Nisswa. Kids get in for free and the first 50 get a great gift bag courtesy of Mills Fleet Farm.
