Leisure Outdoor Adventures area fishing report

GULL CHAIN: Gull has been been challenging for walleyes during the day. Best action has come from guys trolling Rapalas in 5-8 feet along sand flats with emerging weed clumps.  Multi-species action continues to be found along shoreline weeds pitching a jig and plastic or live bait rigging.

LEECH LAKE: The rocks on the main lake have produced the best fishing this past week. Spinners with crawlers trolled in 13-16 feet have out-produced jigs and live-bait rigging. Spots to look at include Mokey Reef and Annex Reef. Windblown points also have produced fish with jigs and shiners still. Try Mounds Point or Duck Point. Multi-species action has been solid along the weed edges in Walker Bay from 14-18 feet.

MILLE LACS: Fishing is good on Mille Lacs. You can use a variety of bait and methods, all of which will bring success right now. Lindy-rigging a leech is the most popular method of daytime fishing but don’t be afraid to use crawlers or minnows.  There are still fish hanging on the breaklines and rock reefs. Look for them in 22-24 feet during the daytime when the sun is out. Evening bite is strong on the Garrison Reef and Myr Mar Reef in 11 feet of water. The mud flats also are producing fish. Look for fish on the top edge in the mornings and slowly sliding off structure as the day goes on. Bottom line is that fishing is good, so get out and enjoy it.

LAKE EDWARD: Panfish are beginning to disperse but still can be found shallow in 4-8 feet. Bass are going gangbusters on Edward and are hitting just about anything; pick your favorite presentation and go. Walleyes can be found in 14-22 feet — both live-bait rigging and vertical jigging have produced fish.  Plentiful northern pike action can be found along the weedlines.

MISC.: Some of the area lakes have been giving up large sunfish over the last week due to spawning activity. Bay Lake and Little Rabbit Lake were both good during mid-week. Look for Borden Lake to heat up soon with crappie fishing.

Bass are biting well on Gull, Round, North long and most area lakes post-spawn. Bass fishing should be great in the next couple weeks. Target shallow inside weedlines and docks. Baits to try include Northland Impulse Dipstick, Birush Beavers and Trigger X. Crankbaits like Rapala Rippin Raps, DT 4 and 6 have also produced fish.
