Baxter Bass Snatchers start season

Snowmobile trail group elects officers

The Crow Wing County Snowmobile Trails Association elected officers at its June 11 meeting. The organization elected Mark Kavanaugh, president; Tom Jann, vice president; Tom Hecker, secretary; and Barb Blixt, treasurer to a one-year term of office.

The Crow Wing County Snowmobile Trail Association (CWCSTA) is made up of 12 snowmobile clubs that help maintain 1,000 miles of trails in the Brainerd lakes area in north central Minnesota.

These clubs include — Bay Lake SnoPackers, Baxter Snowmobile Club, Brainerd Snodeos, Emily/Outing Snowbirds, Fort Ripley Trail Busters, Garrison Commercial Club, Gull Lake Drifters, Ideal SnoPros, Merrifield Marathons, Pequot Lakes Brush Pilots, Ponto Knight Riders and the Sno-Serpents Snowmobile Club.

Volunteers support the clubs by clearing and maintaining trails, driving and maintaining grooming equipment, creating the CWCSTA trail map and working with land owners and government agencies to ensure the health of the sport of snowmobiling.

Baxter Bass Snatchers start season

The first tournament of Baxter Bass Snatchers was held June 2 on Bay Lake, with 33 anglers competing.

A total of 187 bass were caught and released. First place went to Jim Smith, with a catch of 15 pounds, 13 ounces. Second place went to Dave Maas with 15 pounds, 11 ounces. Third place went to Roger Ubl with 14 pounds, 6 ounces. The lunker for the tournament was a 3 pound, 15 ounce bass caught by Owen Lease.
