Good day on the Whitefish Chain
Thursday morning was a beauty!
I was up on the Whitefish Chain with Curtis of Motley, Jim of Greer, S.C., and Jamie of Gloucester, Mass. Curt and Jamie work with Trident Foods (makers of Sea Legs) and Jim is with Old Country Buffet. It was one of those trips where everything went well — the weather was ideal, the fish were biting and I had three nice guys to fish with. When the fish bite, I am happy and when the walleyes are going it’s even better!
The first spot was Pikeville and we ended up moving because they would not leave us a alone. Jamie knows the crew from “Deadliest Catch” and he did mention that he had taken same Dramamine before our trip (not sure what he was expecting), but that 5 mph northwest wind was just right in my book. We were live bait rigging with red tail and creek chubs in 12 to 20 feet of water and everyone joined in on the action but I think our local Motleyite bagged the most walleyes. I think Jim had the largest walleye and Jamie a large, largemouth bass! Jamie had to be off the water early enough to catch a flight out of Minneapolis at 4 p.m. so it turned out to be a short and sweet trip to the WFC! The walleyes that we caught will be shipped off to Massachusettes and South Carolina and are probably being eaten right now!! No Sea Legs for the guys tonight, it’s Minnesota walleye.
