Lindbergh candlelight trails night on Feb. 15

LITTLE FALLS — Charles Lindbergh State Park candlelight trails night will be from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 15.

Participants can ski, snowshoe or hike 1.4 miles of trails with candle luminaries set along the way to guide their path. Afterwards, visitors can relax in a 1938 wood-heated log-cabin style shelter building.

The lit trails will meander through stands of pine, oak and aspen and over Pike Creek. Ski rentals are available in Little Falls. Snowshoe rentals and vehicle permits are available at the park office.

A Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit is required to enter the park ($5/day or $25/year) but no additional charges or registration is necessary to participate in this event.

In case of bad weather a message will be left on the park’s answering machine stating if the event will be cancelled.

Build your own fishing rod

LakeLady Custom Fishing Rods will offer three build your own fishing rod classes this winter.

The first class is Feb. 15-17; the second is scheduled for March 1-3 the third is March 8-10.

The classes of six or seven allow individual attention for each builder. Instructors will explain and teach the hobby and give you tips for continued success. Classes begin on Friday evening at 6 p.m., run all day Saturday and two-three hours on Sunday. The classes are held at the Lodge at Gander Mountain in Baxter.

Everything is furnished for you to build a spin or casting rod up to 7 feet in length, choice of action and power, thread color, inscription and more. Free use of tools and disposables is included.

The rod you will build will have a retail value of about $200. The cost of the class is $248 including taxes. You may also register to join the Custom Rod Builders Guild and receive, among other things, a quarterly RodCrafter Journal, the longest continuous published journal for rod builders in the world for an additional $30.
