McLain's hat trick enough for Warriors to beat the Green Wave

Mitch McLain drew praise Friday night for his three goals and play in front of the net for Brainerd.

Mitch McLain scored the Brainerd Warriors' first three goals and assisted on another during Friday's 5-1 non-conference victory over the East Grand Forks Green Wave Friday.

Josh Archibald tallied four assists and Matt Pohlkamp recorded two assists and a second-period goal.

"Our line of McLain, (Josh) Archibald, and (Matthew) Pohlkamp played well tonight," Warriors head coach Jim Archibald said. "They had a lot of opportunities. Mitch was exceptional in front of the net."

Brainerd's Jared Stearns was a wall turning away 20 of the 21 shots that came toward him.

"Jared was strong in the net once again tonight," Archibald said. "The only shot they got was through traffic. Everything else he could see he stopped tonight.

"The guys played really well. We got better as the game progressed and that's all we ask that they come out and put forth the same effort every night."

Brainerd's Aaron Rich posted Brainerd's final goal in the third period.
