Chouanard pinned Brainerd’s Mack Glasby in 2:32 for the championship.

At 135, two-time state champion Hayden Zillmer of Crosby-Ironton was defeated 7-2 by Matt Nelson of Big Lake for the title. Nelson is ranked third in Class 2A at 135 and Zillmer No. 1 at 130 in 1A.

Mitch Steffens of Wadena-Deer Creek was runner-up at 119, Aitkin’s Brian Wold was second at 130, Peter Harrison of Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus was second at 152 and Christian Harrison of PL/PRB was second at 171.

Brainerd’s Tyler Kohlmeier placed fourth at 171 and Luke Boran fifth at 135.

“It’s been kind of a grueling week and a half,” Warriors co-head coach Mike Boran said of having seven events in 10 days. “I think we wrestled OK. We’re happy with the guys who placed.

“Mack would like to have his match back in the finals. Chouanard caught him and pinned him. When you get in the finals it’s pretty tough. Even though he would like to have that one back he had a good tournament, the same with Tyler and Luke. Both wrestled great competition. Luke lost to Zillmer in the semis. Tyler was fighting illness all weekend.

“Anytime you’re in the top eight in the Big Bear with 36 teams you’ve had a pretty good tournament.”

I then transfered up to Bemidji State University in, you guessed it, Bemidji, MN. In the spring of 2009, I graduated from BSU.
