Stone, Warrior boys finish first in meet

LUTSEN — Savannah Stone won her second meet in a row and Rian Hutchison missed finishing first by 4/100ths of a second as the boys took top honors and the girls finished fourth in the five-team Moose Mountain Invite on Thursday.

“Savannah’s second win in a row, and winning by almost 10 seconds, that’s pretty incredible,” said Brainerd coach Jim Ruttger. “Rian had a great day too, finishing so close to first.”

Stone’s winning time was 1:05.90 for the combined two runs. It was her third win of the season. She has finished in the top three of all five of the Warriors’ meets.

Virginia’s Joel Moschler finished first for the boys (1:05.54), narrowly edging Hutchison (1:05.58).

Also finishing in the top 10 for the Brainerd boys were Thor Linnerooth, fourth (1:06.89), and Andy Whiteman, eighth (1:13.18). Michael Smith finished 12th in 1:14.92.

“Thor had a great day for us too,” said Ruttger. “He actually had the fastest time in the field on the first run and was leading going into the second run.”

Mara Williams’ eighth-place finish (1:20.29) was the next Warrior closest to Stone. Marissa Bjerkness finished 18th.
