Warriors' Hayes to sign with Northern

Brainerd High School senior running back Jordan Hayes will sign with Northern State University of Aberdeen, S.D., on Wednesday.

Hayes helped the Warriors to an 8-0 regular season, Central Lakes Conference and Section 8-5A championships, an 11-1 overall record and led the team in rushing, receiving and scoring.

Ring breaks UMD indoor school record

Brainerd High School graduate Kelsi Ring set a University of Minnesota-Duluth women's indoor track and field school record Saturday at the Maverick Open in Mankato.

The freshman won the triple jump with a mark of 36-00.25 and won the 60-meter hurdles, breaking her UMD indoor record with a time of 9.06.

Up next for the Bulldogs is the Bison Open at Fargo on Saturday.

Neugebauer player of week

Central Lakes College sophomore Stephanie Neugebauer of Brainerd is the MCAC Southern Division women's basketball player of the week ending Jan. 29.

She averaged 22.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in leading CLC to a split of division games last week. Neugebauer poured in 29 points in a win over Fergus Falls.

Pierz's Weber player of week in CMC

Preston Weber of Pierz was named the Central Minnesota Conference boys basketball player of the week ending Jan. 29.

Weber scored 27, 32, 29 and 29 points in his last four games.

Sophomore boys win

Brainerd defeated St. Cloud Tech 75-37 in sophomore boys basketball Friday.

Jagar Hanson scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Brainerd improved to 12-0. Ian Haug added 23 points, Tony Sauer scored 11 points and Andrew Seglum grabbed eight rebounds for the Warriors.
