SWIMMING AND DIVING: Warriors stumble, lose to the Cards
Brainerd MN 506 James St. / PO Box 974 56401

ALEXANDRIA — Bradyn Watson won two individual events and helped Brainerd’s 200-yard medley relay to first, but the Alexandria Cardinals pulled off the victory with 96-88 defeat of the Brainerd Warriors in Thursday’s Central Lakes Conference meet.

It was the final dual meet for the Warriors, who dropped to 6-2, while the Cardinals claimed sole possession of second place in the conference behind unbeaten Fergus Falls.

“It’s a disappointing loss,” said Warrior head coach John Zemke. “Alexandria swam very well so hats off to them. We had some kids swim well and others didn’t. We’ll move on from here. Our goal has always been to do well in the section meet so we’ll continue training and see what happens.”

Joining Watson on the medley relay were Josh McKeag, Justin Kuglin and Sam Dellacecca.

Watson’s other firsts came in the 200 individual medley and the breaststroke.

McKeag won the 100 backstroke and Dellacecca won the 100 free and was second in the 50.

“Sam had a nice meet with a season best in the 50 and then he came from the outside lane to win the 100 free,” said Zemke. “He also had a nice split in the last relay. He really barreled down for us.”

The Warriors needed to finish first and third in the 400 free relay, but were outtouched by Alexandria for first and the meet win.

Kuglin recorded a season best in the 100 free and Luke Jacobsen’s backstroke time was also a season best.
