BOYS BASKETBALL: Pequot Lakes pounces on S-M

PEQUOT LAKES — Kurtis Moody scored 32 points to lead Class 2A’s fifth-ranked Pequot Lakes Patriots past the Staples-Motley Cardinals 77-61 in Tuesday’s Mid-State Conference game.

Thomas Parker added 17 and Logan Lange 11 for the 14-4 Patriots, who improved to 8-1 in conference play.

The Cardinals were led by Eli Beachy’s 20 points, which featured five  3-pointers. Tyler Glines adding 17 points and Seth Auger 11.

It was the ninth win in the last 10 games for the Patriots, who had defeated the Cardinals twice earlier.

WADENA — Caleb Janson scored 17 points and 19 rebounds followed by Brandon Meyer’s 16 and Andy Leidenfrost’s 14 to lead the Pierz Pioneers to a 71-61 non-conference win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Tuesday.

W-DC was led by Jordan Reed’s 15 points and received 12 points each from Evan VanErp and Isaiah Toedter.

AITKIN — Nathan Ehnstrom topped all scorers with 23 points and the Aitkin Gobblers avenged an earlier 58-45 loss to Isle defeating the Huskies 61-46 Tuesday in a Great River Conference game.

Ehnstrom connected on seven 3-pointers and Danny Daily added three more finishing with 11 points.

LITTLE FALLS — Grant Bell was the only Flyer in double figures as Little Falls lost to the St. Cloud Tech Tigers 65-50 in Tuesday’s Central Lakes Conference matchup.

The loss stopped the 14-6 Flyers winning streak at six.

DEER RIVER — Four Rangers reached double figures, but it wasn’t enough as Crosby-Ironton fell 72-65 to the Deer River Warriors during non-conference play Tuesday.

Michael Hoge and Caleb Baker each supplied 19 points and Daniel Hudrlik 10 while Phil Kuhlmann finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

PILLAGER — The Pillager Huskies came close to picking up their first win of the season behind 18 points from Jordan Hunstad, but lost 51-47 to the Menahga Braves in Park Region Conference action Tuesday.

Hunstad hit four times from beyond the arc and Cole Hunstad added 12 points for the Huskies.
