Lemberg reaches 1,000, PR-B tops W-H-A

PINE RIVER — Hannah Lemberg scored her 1,000th career point on her final basket of the night, a 3-pointer in the second half, as the Pine River-Backus Tigers defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 65-32 in Thursday’s Northwoods Conference game.

Lemberg finished with 20 points and seven assists to become the sixth girl in PR-B history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Lemberg’s teammates, Tatum Sheley and Katie Wangberg are two of the others.

Sheley added 16 and Grace Lemberg 10 for the Tigers, who finish the regular season with a perfect 13-0 conference mark and a 23-3 overall record.

PLYMOUTH — Bethany Cressman grabbed 18 rebounds to go with 11 points as the Lake Region Christian Hornets stung St. Francis 46-20 in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Association of Christian Schools state tournament Thursday.

Emily Beltran added 13 points and Kelsey Grider 10 for the 22-2 Hornets, who advance to the semifinals against Heritage from Karlstad.

PILLAGER — Jackie White tallied a game-high 27 points, including a trio from 3-point range, to lead the Pillager Huskies past the Royalton Royals 58-40 in Thursday’s non-conference, regular-season ending game.

Shauna Maurer added 15 points for the 16-10 Huskies.

PARK RAPIDS — Eleven different Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines found the scoring column, led by nine points each from Avery Jackson and Emily Miron, during Thursday’s 60-18 Mid-State Conference defeat of the Park Rapids Panthers.

Wadena-Deer Creek held the Panthers to 1-19 shooting in the first half as the won their fifth straight game..

ISLE — Melissa Paulson hit for 17 points and Mikayla Michaletz finished with 14 points for the Aitkin Gobblers in a 63-43 Great River Conference loss to Isle Thursday. 

The loss snaps Aitkin’s four-game winning streak and gives Isle the season sweep.
