Wernberg garners MIAC honor

Hamline University senior Robyn Wernberg of Brainerd turned in a strong performance at the University of Minnesota last weekend and is the MIAC women's field athlete of the week.

She finished third in the weight throw, setting a personal best and jumping to No. 2 in the MIAC this season.

Wernberg recorded a distance of 51-11.0 in the weight throw. That distance is the best of her career by almost a full meter over her previous record, which she set as a junior.

Competing against a field loaded with Division I, II and III competition, Wernberg earned a spot in the top three.

Her distance meets the NCAA Division provisional qualifying standard for nationals, and currently ranks 29th in Division III in 2011.

Wernberg and the Pipers will compete in their final indoor meet of the regular season Saturday at the University of Minnesota Parents Day Open.

Hamline will compete in Macalester's Pre-Conference Meet Feb. 25 as its final tune-up before the MIAC Indoor Championships March 3-5 at St. Thomas.

After graduating high school in 2004, I attended Central Lakes College in Staples, MN for 2 years where I got a diploma in Communication Art and Design. I then transfered up to Bemidji State University in, you guessed it, Bemidji, MN. In the spring of 2009, I graduated from BSU. Then in the fall of 2009 I got a job at Echo Publishing, a sister company to the Brainerd Dispatch.
