FLOOR HOCKEY: Robbinsdale beats Warriors again

ROBBINSDALE — Tied 2-2 after two periods, the Brainerd Warriors were undone by penalties in the third and lost 8-4 to Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound West in the final regular-season game for Brainerd on Thursday.

“The difference is we had nine penalties not including our warnings,” said Brainerd coach Bruce Thompson. “We had five penalties in the third period alone. We played short-handed 10 of the 15 minutes in the third period.”

Brainerd ends the regular season 8-2, its only other loss also coming at the hands of undefeated Robbinsdale 6-0 on Feb. 10.

Austin Annable and Brock Saatzer scored for the Warriors in the first period while Brennen Myers and Wes Blomberg found the net in the third.

Robbinsdale exploded for four goals in just over three minutes to take a 6-2 lead at the 5:59 mark in the final period.

Brainerd goalie Anna Wahl was credited with 14 saves as the Warriors outshot Robbinsdale 30-21.

“We played a good team, really we were in this game until we got into the penalty situation,” said Thompson.  “Clearly, we can play with these guys, but we can’t play short-handed.”
