BOYS TENNIS Cardinals clipped in opener

STAPLES — The Staples-Motley Cardinals took two of three doubles matches, but couldn’t close the deal in singles as they lost their season opener to Minnewaska 4-3 Monday.

The No. 2 doubles team of Grant Longbella-Dale Bogt captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory and the team of Nick Johnson-Robin Melse won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
