AREA BASEBALL: Aitkin downs Rush City

AITKIN — Kylan Hill hit a two-run home run and the Aitkin Gobblers improved to 4-1 as they defeated Rush City 10-3 in a Great River Conference game Tuesday.

Peter Zasmeta stole three bases while going 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI. Dean Lynn finished 3-4 scoring twice and Travis Bare was 1-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

BH/V takes two

MENAHGA — Jared Hoemberg belted a two-run home run in the first game and drove in the winnng run in the second game as Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale swept a Park Region Conference doubleheader defeating Menagha 5-2 and 3-2 Tuesday.

Hoemberg cleared the fence in the first inning of Game One while going 2-3 and driving in three for the game. Nick Jasmer and Austin Selvey each added two hits.

In Game Two, Hoemberg smacked a double in the bottom of the seventh to drive in Jasmer with the winning run. Jasmer finished 2-4 with a double and one RBI. Dustin Motschenbacher went 2-3 with three stolen bases and scored twice.

Blackduck sweeps PR-B

PINE RIVER — The Pine River-Backus Tigers dropped a pair of 10-run games to Blackduck 16-6 and 15-5 in a Northland Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

Derek Sonenstahl belted a triple and had an RBI in the first game.

The second game was tied 5-5 after seven innings before the Tigers committed four errors in the eighth allowing Blackduck to tally 10 runs.

Russ Burgoyne was 2-4 with a double and an RBI and Jared Adkins drove in three while going 2-5 for PR-B.

BATTLE LAKE — Derrick Rude went 2-3 with an RBI for Wadena-Deer Creek in the Wolverines 4-2 loss to Ottertail Central Tuesday.

Rude was tagged with the loss. He struck out eight, walked three and allowed three hits and no earned runs in six innings of work.

St. Cloud Cathedral 5,

Pierz 2

ST. CLOUD — Dylan Kummet and Andy Leidenfrost each collected a double and drove in a run for Pierz, but the Pioneers suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders Tuesday.

The Pioneers had a chance to tie the game in the seventh with the tying run at the plate, but were unable to complete the rally.
