AREA SOFTBALL: Pierz wins first of season

SWANVILLE — The Pierz bats exploded for 22 hits leading the Pioneers to a 20-4 triumph over Swanville Tuesday.

Pierz’s Miranda Woitalla went 4-4 with four RBIs, a double and three runs scored. Megan Boser also drove in four runs, while going 3-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base.

Elizabeth Tomala pitched all five innings giving up just three hits, while striking out six and walking four.

PINE RIVER — Autumn Ackerman pitched all five innings giving up just one hit and striking out eight to lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers to a 21-4 Upper Mississippi Conference win over Red Lake Tuesday.

Ackerman was perfect at the plate, as well, going 2-2 with a pair of triples.

PR-B’s Katie Wangberg ripped a pair of triples while going 3-3 and drove in four runs.

Morgan DeMars was 3-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Caroline Welsand finished 3-4 with two RBIs, a double and a triple.

AITKIN — Morgan Schoonover tagged a bases-clearing double for the Aitkin Gobblers in an 8-3 Great River Conference win over the Rush City Tigers Tuesday. 

Courtney Tesch earned the win allowing just two hits, while striking out eight through seven innings. Jana Kangas added a triple and Gel Montano went 2-4 with an RBI for the Gobblers.

OTC sweeps Verndale

VERNDALE — Jordy Schluttner was 1-3 with three RBIs and Kirsten Korfe scored twice on two walks during the Verndale Pirates 9-5 Game One loss to the Ottertail Central Bulldogs Tuesday.

Verndale fell in Game Two 5-2. Teresa Moenkedick was 1-2 with a run scored.
