COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Raiders silence Thunder
Lindsay Fryer amassed a double, triple and a home run helping the Central Lakes Raiders pick up a sweep of the Fond du Lac Thunder in a Northern Division battle Tuesday at Findorff Field in Brainerd.
Sam Harting struck out four through seven shutout innings and added a double during a 7-0 Game One win. Fryer collected an opening-game double for the Raiders, who scored all seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Fryer continued to swing a hot bat in the second game, collecting a double, triple and a home run. Harting struck out three more as the Raiders hung on for a 9-8 Game Two win.
“This (sweep) was big for us,” Raiders coach Greg Medeck said. “We’ve been splitting most of these games in division play, and for us to beat a very good team in both games is big. We picked up four points (in the standings) with this being the only time we face Fond du Lac this season. We played really well and I’m really proud of the way we’ve been playing.”
Dani Thiesse scored three times for the Raiders in the finale, including the game winner in the eighth inning.
With the sweep, the Raiders jumped to second in the division.
