GOLF SHORTS: Whitefish women’s league

The Whitefish women’s 18-hole league will begin play May 4.

All women are interested in joining this league can pick up more information about the league and its schedule at the Whitefish Pro Shop or call (218) 543-4900.

The league has weekly games, monthly luncheons and special events including Rally for the Cure, member-guest and invitational, championship tournament, match play and the seasonal shoot-out.

Deacon’s Lodge one of

‘Best Courses You Can Play ‘

Deacon’s Lodge in Breezy Point was named one of the nation’s “Best Courses You Can Play” by Golfweek magazine.

The publication selected courses from across the country based on criteria such as level of play, daily fee, layouts and accessibility via resorts. Just 10 courses from Minnesota received the honor. Deacon’s was ranked as the sixth best in the state.

The Quarry at Giants Ridge in Biwabik was the No. 1-rated course in Minnesota followed by the Wilderness at Fortune Bay in Tower, Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, Meadows at Mystic Lake in Prior Lake, StoneRidge in Stillwater, Dacota Ridge in Morton at No. 7, The Classic at Madden’s in Brainerd, Rush Creek in Maple Grove and Legends Club in Prior Lake.

Hole-in-one

Jordan Frederick, Battle Lake, aced the 117-yard sixth hole of the Dutch Course at Cragun’s Legacy Courses using a pitching wedge.
