AREA BASEBALL Greiner, Pats knock off PR-B

PINE RIVER — Cole Humphrey hit a three-run homer and Nick Greiner hit a solo shot for the Pequot Lakes Patriots in a 5-1 victory over Pine River-Backus in non-conference action Monday.

Greiner went the distance on the mound for the Patriots as he gave up just the one run on four hits, while striking out two. Jacob Box also went 2-4. 

The Tigers Nathan Holm pitched a complete game striking out eight. Derek Sonenstahl finished 2-3.

PIERZ — Ben Boser finished 2-4 and Cody Weiss drove in a run as the Pierz Pioneers were handed a 14-3 defeat by the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles during Monday’s Central Minnesota Conference game.
