AREA BASEBALL: Pequot Lakes sweeps C-I

CROSBY — Pequot Lakes swept its Mid-State Conference doubleheader from Crosby-Ironton with two wild games. The Patriots won the first game 11-10, and took the second 10-3.

In Game One, Pequot Lakes was aided by 14 walks and two hit batters. Nick Greiner took the win, pitching 5.1 innings, striking out three. Jared Bundy finished 3-4 in Game One for the Rangers. 

Cole Humphrey had the big hit in Game Two for Pequot Lakes, a grand slam and a 2-4 day at the plate.  Bryan Yackley also went 3-4, homered and earned the victory for the Patriots. Yackley pitched all seven innings, giving up just four hits while striking out seven. 

Zach Olander finished 2-3 and Mikey Minarich was 1-2 for the Rangers.

Aitkin 11, Onamia 1 

AITKIN — The Aitkin Gobblers, powered by Kylan Hill and Peter Zasmeta, pounded out 11 hits and coasted to an 11-1 victory over Onamia in Great River Conference action Tuesday.

Hill hit a grand slam, and Zasmeta homered for Aitkin. Nathan Ehnstrom, Jordan Chouanard and Dean Lynn each had two hits.

Lynn pitched five innings, striking out four.

Pine River-Backus 1, 

Nevis 0

PINE RIVER — Todd Woelfel pitched a complete-game shutout, and Nathan Holm went 2-3 with the game-winning hit to lead Pine River-Backus past Nevis 1-0 in Northland Conference action Tuesday. 

Holm’s single in the third inning drove in Ryan Wynn with the game’s only run. Wynn also went 2-3 with a double.

Pierz 7, Belgrade-B-E 1

PIERZ — Dylan Kummet doubled, swiped two bases, scored a pair of runs and drove in one as the Pierz Pioneers earned their first Central Minnesota Conference win, defeating the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars 7-1 Monday.

Brad Trapp added a double, run and RBI, while Logan Meyer and Brandon Kurowski each added doubles.

MENAHGA — Matt Doss, Cole Hunstad, and Riesland Wikman each finished with two hits to lead Pillager past Menahga 6-1 in Park Region Conference action Tuesday.

Doss doubled and had an RBI while also getting the victory. Cole Hunstad and Wikman were both 2-4 with RBIs.

Wadena-DC, S-M split

WADENA — Cory Tumberg was 6-for-8, with two doubles, and two runs scored in two games for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines as they split a Mid-State Conference doubleheader 12-2 and 8-6 with the Staples-Motley Cardinals.

Derrick Rude was 2-4, with a home run and RBI while Jake Krause went 2-3 with a double, and two runs scored in Game One for the Wolverines.

Kenny Sakry was the big hitter for the Cardinals in Game One, going 3-4.

Game Two saw Alex Jansson going 3-4 with a double, home run and four runs scored for Staples-Motley.

Jake Rude went 2-3 with a home run, and two RBIs in Game Two. Derrick Rude followed his Game One performance by going 2-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Storm sweep Flyers

SAUK RAPIDS — Joey Hanowski was 1-2, with a double, and two RBIs in Game Two for the Little Falls Flyers as they lost 6-2 and 3-2 to the Sauk Rapids Storm in Mid-State Conference play Tuesday.

In Game One, Joe Tuholsky doubled and went 2-3 for the Flyers.
