HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Warriors sweep CLC doubleheader
ST. CLOUD — Mitch Bzdok’s RBI triple tied the second game and Mitch McLain followed with a walk-off game-winning single as the Brainerd Warriors beat the St. Cloud Tech Tigers 5-4 in the second game of a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader Tuesday night at Faber Field.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jack Hegarty reached on an error and advanced to second on the throw. Bruce London flew out before Bzdok tripled to right-center to score Hegarty and tie the game 4-4. On the next pitch, McLain singled over third base to win the game.
Michael Smith got the win in relief. In two-thirds of an inning, he recorded one strikeout and allowed two hits. Kevin Peterson started, and had five strikeouts and a walk in 4.1 innings. Blaine Bubalo pitched two innings, with a strikeout and two walks.
Hegarty finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Bzdok was 1-3 with the RBI.
Brainerd won the opener 9-0 as Hegarty pitched six strong innings to get the win. He struck out five, walked one and allowed three hits. Bzdok pitched the last inning, with one strikeout, no walks and no hits.
Pat Skogen went 3-5 with a double and two RBIs, Hegarty was 2-4 with an RBI, Bzdok was 2-4 and McLain finished 3-4 with two RBIs.
“The first game we hit the ball really well, we just played well,” Warriors coach Lowell Scearcy said. “The second game we struggled a little bit and didn’t really get anything going. We fell behind, and made a comeback with two outs in the seventh.”
