AREA SOFTBALL Felhous, Tigers scratch out win

PINE RIVER — Megan Felhous went 2-4, drove in four runs and snuck home on a wild pitch for the game-winning run as the Pine River-Backus Tigers were 12-11 victors over the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves during Thursday’s Upper Mississippi Conference game. 

Morgan Demars and Tatum Sheley each went 2-3 with a triple. Katie Wangberg finished 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and Autumn Ackerman struck out seven in seven innings for the Tigers.

Pierz splits

PIERZ — Katelyn Fuhrman went 3-4 with a double, a home run, five RBI and two runs as the Pierz Pioneers erupted for a 12-7 Game One win during Thursday’s Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader. 

Furhman also picked up the win throwing seven innings and striking out five.

Megan Boser added a home run and two RBIs for the Pioneers and Miranda Woitalla, Kailee Monson, Brook Brausen, and Anna Welle each added doubles in Game One.

The Pioneers’ bats went cold as they suffered a five inning 17-0 Game Two loss.

S-M sweeps Perham

STAPLES — Alicia Goltz was 6-8 with two triples, four RBIs and three runs scored in two games for the Staples-Motley Cardinals as they swept the Perham Yellowjackets 13-3, 15-7 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader. 

S-M’s Jasmine McGillvray also tripled twice and went 2-4 in Game Two.

Game One saw Kelli Roline going 1-1 with a run and laying down two sacrifice bunts. Roline was 2-3 in Game Two.

Taylor Tomman was 2-4 in Game One for the 8-5 Cardinals.

AITKIN — Angelica Montano, Jozee Fossom and Sarah Johnson accounted for Aitkin’s three lone hits in the Gobblers’ 12-1 six-inning loss to Hinckley-Finlayson in Thursday’s Great River Conference game.

Sartell 16, Little Falls 12

LITTLE FALLS — Brichelle Brummer slapped two doubles and a home run to drive in three runs and score four times herself during the Little Falls Flyers 16-12 Central Lakes Conference loss to Sartell Thursday.

The Flyers sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run first, but eight walks and six errors translated into six unearned runs scored against the Flyers.
