HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL Warriors hold off Fergus Falls

FERGUS FALLS — Alyssa Thoennes finished 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch as the unbeaten Brainerd Warriors survived an error-riddled seventh inning for an 8-6 win over the Fergus Falls Otters in Thursday’s Central Lakes Conference game.

Trouble came in the seventh with the Warriors leading 8-1 and one out as the Otters scored five times courtesy of three errors before a line drive to center field ended the game with runners at second and third.

“We kind of dodged one,” Warriors assistant coach Dan Bzdok said. “Bottom line, if we don’t execute better, it is going to be harder to win throughout the playoffs.”

Left-hander Nikki Anderson walked one and struck out 10 picking up the win for Class 3A’s eighth-ranked Warriors.

Chelsie Manton went 2-4 and Ashley Tibbetts finished 2-5 for the Warriors, whose seven errors led to all six of the Otters’ runs being unearned.

Brainerd’s junior varsity won 6-3.
