BOYS TENNIS: Gobblers, Staples-Motley win

AITKIN — The Aitkin Gobblers got the momentum they needed before heading into the section team tournament as they shut out Mora 7-0 Tuesday in their final regular-season match.

Dan Klucas won for the seventh consecutive time since moving up to No. 2 singles and is 13-4 overall for the Gobblers.

Aitkin is 10-7 and hosts a first-round match in the Section 7-1A team tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday.

STAPLES — All four singles players for Staples-Motley won in straight sets to lead a 4-3 win over Detroit Lakes in a Mid-State Conference dual meet Tuesday that kept the Cardinals undefeated in conference play at 4-0.

Winning singles matches were Tom Zoellner, Guthrie Coughlin, Antoine Moumal and Austin Hirschey.

The Cardinals’ No. 2 doubles team of Grant Longbella-Dale Vogt battled for three sets before losing 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.
