HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Beadle’s birthday a smash for Warriors
Ali Beadle celebrated her birthday Tuesday with a wallop.
The first-year Brainerd Warriors third baseman crushed an Avery Seguin offering over the left field fence in the third inning for a 3-0 Warrior lead.
Brainerd would go on to defeat the Sartell Sabres 12-1 in five innings at Adamson Field to clinch the Central Lakes Conference with a 13-0 record.
“It felt pretty nice,” Beadle said about her home run. “Just by the sound of it off the bat I knew it was gone. It was definitely an inside pitch because that’s where my powerhouse is, right where she pitched it.”
Beadle was hitting .405 with 11 RBIs, five doubles, a home run and triple before Tuesday’s game.
“Ali Beadle is just an outstanding player,” said Warrior head coach Mike Zauhar. “We got lucky when she moved in here. She played fast-pitch her entire life. She plays great defense and has a lot of power. That ball was hit pretty hard today.”
Of Brainerd’s 12 hits, six were doubles, one a triple and Beadle’s home run. Seven of them came in the Warriors’ nine-run fourth inning that helped shorten the game by two and a half innings.
Ashley Tibbetts began the damage with a leadoff single. She finished 2-3 with a run. An error and hit batter loaded the bases for catcher Carlie Sweet, who worked the count to produce a walk. Karlie Manton doubled in two runs and Alanna Hanson followed with a two-run double of her own. Hanson finished 1-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
Chelsie Manton singled and later scored on Hannah Kangas’ double. Kangas scored on Shalene Cole’s double, who later scored on Krista Bjork’s double.
“Everyone in the dugout was just screaming and yelling and I think that helped,” said Beadle. “The excitement of it all certainly helps and all the practicing we do.”
Nikki Anderson scattered two hits over four innings. She struck out four and hit one batter. Brainerd did commit three errors, which produced seven Sartell baserunners. Only the Sabres’ Mickenzie Tidd was able to find home, which she did in the fourth, to make it 3-1.
“After our game against Fergus, we’ve been definitely on our defense hard,” said Beadle. “We’re trying to just push it so we can get our defense down.”
Karlie Manton came on in the fifth and struck out two of the four batters she faced to improve Brainerd’s overall record to 14-0.
“We had a lot of contributions from a lot of people,” said Zauhar. “I thought we came focused, but it’s pretty hard not to with the atmosphere we had here. We had the a cappella choir singing. We had a great crowd, great weather. We were focused today. We got a little sloppy there in the middle innings, but that’s going to happen. We rebounded nicely.”
