Warrior volleyball camps, open gym scheduled

Brainerd Warriors volleyball coach Jared Diem has scheduled summer camps June 27-30 at the Forestview Middle School gym in Baxter and July 11-14 in the Brainerd High School gym.

"I have some of the best coaches in the state helping with volleyball camps this summer," Diem said in a news release. "Coaches Lonnie Morken of Mabel-Canton and Kurt Stumpf of Pierz will be guest instructors, along with myself and the varsity staff.

"These are passionate coaches with exceptional volleyball knowledge and teaching ability. They know how to motivate kids to give their best on the volleyball court. Their records stand for themselves."

The June camp is for all lakes area volleyball players entering grades 8-12. This camp is run by position for setters, lefts, middles, rights, and defensive players for $40 each session.

The July team camp is grouped as follows:

• Grades 11-12, 8:30-10:30 a.m., $50

• Grades 9-10, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., $50

• Grades 7-8, 1:15-3:15 p.m., $50

• Grades 4-6, 3:30-5:00 p.m., $40.

"These camps will kick off our 2011 season, and there is something for every level of player," Diem said. "Players can size up their competition and start getting excited for what lies ahead. Grades 8 and up will be an intense camp focusing on individual and team defense. Core and advanced skills work will be embedded throughout each session.

"The coaching staff will also be assessing players' improvement since last season and will start looking at squad placements. Grades 4-7 will be working on strengthening and developing what they have already learned. They will have fun getting to know other players and coaches as they work through new advanced levels of play."

• Free open gym, grades 8-12, June 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30 from 8 to 10 a.m., BHS gym

• Free open gym, July 19, 21, 26, 28, from 8 to 10 a.m., BHS gym.

After graduating high school in 2004, I attended Central Lakes College in Staples, MN for 2 years where I got a diploma in Communication Art and Design. I then transfered up to Bemidji State University in, you guessed it, Bemidji, MN. In the spring of 2009, I graduated from BSU. Then in the fall of 2009 I got a job at Echo Publishing, a sister company to the Brainerd Dispatch.
