BASEBALL: Marathon opener ends in Lunkers loss

Kyle Winter hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th to tie Wednesday’s Northwoods League season opener between the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers and Alexandria Beetles at 4-4.

But the Beetles used two bunts and a throwing error to score the winning run in a 5-4 finish after 11 innings at Mills Field in Brainerd.

Brainerd High School graduate Kyle Crocker singled in the bottom half the 11th with two outs, but was stranded after Winter hit a fly out to end the game.
