LEGION BASEBALL: Brainerd loses two to Bemidji

BEMIDJI — Bruce London turned in a strong performance at the plate, but it wasn’t enough as Brainerd dropped both games of a doubleheader, 5-4 and 10-2, to Bemidji for only their second and third losses of the season in Legion play Thursday.

In Game One, London was 2-4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Blake Thiesse also finished 2-4.

London belted a two-run home run in Game Two to account for Brainerd’s only runs. Dain Barrett added a double going1-3.

The losses drop Brainerd’s season mark to 5-3. They get a chance for revenge when they host Bemidji Wednesday for a doubleheader starting  at 5 p.m.

Little Falls and Nisswa split

NISSWA — Little Falls put together 13 hits in defeating Nisswa 12-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday and then Nisswa reversed the honors in Game Two to win 12-4 behind 13 hits of their own.

Game One saw Joe Tuholsky pitch all seven innings for Little Falls striking out seven and giving up six hits. He was also solid at the plate going 3-3 and reached base all five times drawng a walk and was hit by a pitch.

Joey Hanowski ripped a two-run home run going 2-5 and Colin Eckman and Spencer Fenske each finished 2-3.

Nisswa was led in the first game by Brett Jenkins, 2-4 with a double and RBI, and Tyler Lenz 2-3 with an RBI.

Josh Davis went all seven innings on the mound for Nisswa in Game Two striking out three and giving up nine hits.

Lenz was 3-4 with a double and Reid Mimmack was 2-3 with a two-run home run. Pat Skogen and Chris Sausen both finished 2-3 while Dustin Borlaug went 1-4 with a double and four RBIs.

Leading Little Falls offensively was Josh Wenzel, 2-3, and Eckman, 2-2 with a double.  Luke Thoma added another double.

Pierz 7, Crosslake-FL-PL 4

PIERZ — Dylan Kummet went 3-3 at the plate and Travis Kahl pitched all seven innings striking out seven and giving up just four hits to lead Pierz to a 7-4 win over Crosslake-Fifty Lakes-Pequot Lakes Thursday.

Kummet’s performance include a double and a pair of RBIs. Nick Lochner finished 2-3 with a double and Brad Trapp was also 2-3 with a stolen base.

Two of Crosslake’s four hits included doubles by Jacob Box and Nate Holm, both of whom went 1-3. Box was credited with a pair of RBIs.
