After a week of training and racing at the Jericho, Vt., facility, Jenna Ruzich, Baxter, finished the final weekend racing with a 3rd place in Saturday’s youth women's 6K sprint and 2nd place in Sunday’s 7.5K pursuit events.

Zean Baker, Nisswa, also competed in the Youth Olympic Trials for 15-16 year olds as well as the weekend races. He finished second on Saturday in the 7.5K youth men's sprint. Baker also finished the best 4 of 9 race Olympic Trials in fourth place in the US. The top two will be attending the Youth Olympics in January in Austria.

Ty Hadrits, Brainerd, finished sixth.

After several days of hard training on the World Cup level paved rollerski loops of Jericho, Baker finished fifth with five misses in 24:16 in the seventh of nine race series, which was a 7.5K sprint. Hadrits placed sixth with one miss in 24:46.

On Saturday, all the Nisswa athletes participated in the sprint event, which was part of the North American Rollerski Championships. Baker finished second in the youth mens 7.5k event with two misses in 22:19. He was 38 seconds behind winner Nick Proell of St Cloud. Hadrits finished 10th with three misses in 25:06.

Ruzich was third in the youth womens 6k, with strong skiing but four prone misses in a time of 24:51.

In Sunday’s pursuit format race, Ruzich combined fast skiing with better shooting missing seven of 20 shots to finish second in 33:46 in the youth womens 7.5k.

Hadrits continued his excellent shooting missing four shots and finishing in 37:33 for sixth place in the youth mens 10k.

Baker suffered in the range for the first two shooting bouts missing four each in prone, but brought it back in the two standing bouts with only two misses each time to finish ninth in 38:40.

The next event for the Nisswa club will be a mass start roller ski event at Elk River on August 25.

Nick Proell, St Cloud, of MNBiathlon finished the Youth Olypics trials in second and is eligible for the Youth Olympic Games which consist of all the Olympic Winter Sports just for athletes born in 1994 or 1995. These games will be held in January in Innsbruck Austria.
