Sobieski downs Nisswa for title
SOBIESKI — Greg Aker finished 4-6 with two home runs, a double, six RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Sobieski Skis to the Region 8C championship with Saturday’s 14-9 victory over the Nisswa Lightning.
Collin Eckman was 2-5 with a home run, three RBIs and a run for the Skis, who saw Andrew Lange pitch 6.1 innings of relief for the victory.
Nisswa’s Drew Boland went 3-4 with a double, walk and three runs. Luke Schumer, Adam Hardy and Tyler Wittwer each hit home runs for the Lightning, who will also advance to the to the Class C state tournament 11 a.m. Saturday in Brownton.
This is the sixth region championship for the Skis since 1998. Sobieski is 6-0 in region championship games. They also became the first repeat winners since Buckman won back-to-back titles in 2002 and 03.

Sobieski 8, Fort Ripley 5
SOBIESKI — Isaac Smieja went 3-5 with two home runs, five RBIs a double and two run scored helping the Sobieski Skies eliminate the Fort Ripley Rebels from the Region 8C tournament Saturday with an 8-5 victory.
Jon Czech went 3-5 with a home run, RBI and three runs scored.
The Rebels’ Ray Austin was 3-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run. Bill Sather finished 2-4, Rob Veith Jr. drove in a run and scored a run and Nick Jelacie also drove in a run.
