The Warriors enjoyed most of their success in doubles where the No. 2 team of Megan Hintz-Nichole Gervenak went 3-0.

Morgan Steffen and Caitlin Steffen went 2-0 at No. 3 doubles, Kayla Kraemer-Sara Wennerstrand went 1-1 at No. 1 and Mackayla Headlee-Natalie Comeau were 1-0 at No. 3.

In singles, Mikinzee Salo went 1-2 and Sara Wennerstrand won Brainerd’s only other singles match.

“We don’t have a secret formula yet,” Warriors coach Ellen Fussy said. “We had a few questions that were answered. It’s early, and the girls played like it’s early, but we’re still OK. We’re not in panic mode.

“The Chanhassen match could have turned the other way. Everybody played two sets. If you split then you played a 10-point tiebreaker. At one singles against Chanhassen, Salo won the first set 6-2, lost the second 6-2, and lost the tiebreaker 12-10, so (the meet) could have gone either way. Mikinzee could have taken that one, and it would have turned the tide Brainerd 4, Chanhassen 3.”

Brainerd plays at the Delano tournament Thursday.

“We’re doing OK, we’re not rattled,” Fussy said. “We saw what we need to work on. We’ll get two good days of practice in. We plan on working on some things, and come out strong for the Delano Tournament.”

After graduating high school in 2004, I attended Central Lakes College in Staples, MN for 2 years where I got a diploma in Communication Art and Design. I then transfered up to Bemidji State University in, you guessed it, Bemidji, MN. In the spring of 2009, I graduated from BSU. Then in the fall of 2009 I got a job at Echo Publishing, a sister company to the Brainerd Dispatch.
