Bell moves into sixth place in goals as Flyers win
BELLE PRAIRIE — Senior Grant Bell picked up where he left off last season, tallying a pair of goals, to lead the Little Falls Flyers past the Bemidji Lumberjacks 2-1 in the season opener for both teams Friday.
Bell, who scored 33 goals last year, moved into sixth place for Minnesota State High School League career goals with 79. The record of 103 goals is held by Chadd Cordova of Plainview-Elgin-Millville (2004-2008).
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead at the half after Bell scored his first goal at 39:17.
A penalty kick by Bemidji’s Isaac Summer tied the match at 50:46 before Bell scored the winner at 56:24.
Matt Anez assisted on both of Bell’s goals.
Junior Mike Stumpf was near perfect in goal for the Flyers, registering nine saves, as Little Falls outshot Bemidji 14-10.
